The first two stories of the residential building were constructed in the mid-1970s while the 3rd and 4th floors in the late-1980s following the provisions and the engineering practice of the old Greek seismic codes (code 1959 and code 1984 accordingly).
Evaluation and Seismic Retrofit of the existing building as well as the Addition of a new concrete floor were designed by EBLECTON according to the recent (2012) Greek Code for Structural Interventions and the relevant part 3 of Eurocode 8.
Aiming the normal knowledge level of the building and the material properties (geometry, reinforcement and detailing, strength, etc.) the available information was supplemented by material tests and assessments.
Nonlinear methods of Analysis (mainly of pushover type) were performed and the below retrofitting techniques were designed via optimization:
- CFRP-wrapping
- Steel-bracing at the first two stories
- Isolation of lift shear-walls
- Foundation strengthening
